Position Summary

Quinn Emanuel is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Corporate Data Privacy Counsel to join our Regulatory Affairs team. This is a fully remote position, allowing you to work from anywhere within the United States. The Corporate Data Privacy Counsel will be responsible for providing legal guidance and support on a wide range of data privacy matters, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and supporting the firm's data governance initiatives. This role will report to the Head of Regulatory Affairs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice and support on global data privacy laws and regulations, including GDPR, CCPA, CPRA, and other emerging privacy laws.
  • Develop and maintain data privacy policies, procedures, and training materials.
  • Conduct privacy risk assessments and provide recommendations for mitigating risks.
  • Advise on data breach incident response and notification requirements.
  • Negotiate and draft data processing agreements and other privacy-related contracts.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments in the area of data privacy and advise on potential impacts to the firm.
  • Support the firm's data governance initiatives and compliance programs.
  • Collaborate with IT, Security, and other internal teams on data privacy matters.
  • Conduct internal audits to ensure compliance with data privacy policies and procedures.
  • Provide training to employees on data privacy best practices.

Required Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admitted to practice law in at least one US state.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in data privacy law.
  • Strong knowledge of global data privacy laws and regulations, including GDPR, CCPA, and other relevant laws.
  • Excellent analytical, research, and writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Must have a dedicated home office space suitable for remote work.
  • Must have reliable, high-speed internet access.

Technical Requirements

To ensure a seamless remote work experience, the following technical requirements apply:

  • High-Speed Internet: Minimum upload speed of 25 Mbps and download speed of 100 Mbps.
  • Home Office Setup: A dedicated, quiet workspace free from distractions.
  • Equipment: Quinn Emanuel will provide a laptop, monitor, keyboard, mouse, and headset. A stipend may be available for home office furniture.
  • Time Zone: While we offer flexible working hours, some meetings may require availability during core business hours in the Pacific Time (PT) or Eastern Time (ET) zones.
  • Software Proficiency: Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, and other collaboration tools is essential.

Desired Skills

  • Privacy certification (e.g., CIPP/US, CIPP/E, CIPM).
  • Experience working in a law firm or other professional services environment.
  • Familiarity with data security principles and practices.
  • Experience with data mapping and data inventory exercises.
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex legal concepts to non-legal audiences.

Compensation & Benefits

The annual salary range for this fully remote position is $180,000 to $250,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Quinn Emanuel offers a comprehensive benefits package, including:
