Key Responsibilities for Customs Broker:
- Manage the customs clearance process for inbound and outbound shipments, ensuring compliance with Canadian customs regulations
- Coordinate with government agencies, carriers, and other stakeholders to facilitate the smooth movement of goods across borders
- Classify goods according to tariff schedules and ensure accurate duty and tax calculations
- Prepare and submit documentation, such as customs invoices and certificates of origin, in a timely manner
- Stay up-to-date on changes in customs laws and regulations to ensure adherence to requirements
- Resolve customs-related issues and communicate effectively with clients and internal teams to provide timely updates
Required Qualifications:
- Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) designation or equivalent certification
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in customs brokerage, preferably in the transportation or logistics industry
- In-depth knowledge of Canadian customs regulations and procedures
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in document preparation and data entry
- Excellent communication skills to interact with clients, government agencies, and internal teams
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Desired Skills:
- Experience with customs brokerage software and electronic data interchange (EDI) systems
- Familiarity with other trade compliance areas, such as export controls and sanctions
- Multilingual abilities to communicate with international partners and clients
- Knowledge of international trade agreements and customs valuation methods
Compensation & Benefits:
The annual salary range for the Customs Broker position at Air Canada in Burlington, Ontario, Canada is between $55,000 and $75,000 CAD, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
