Key Responsibilities for Emergency Dispatcher:
- Receive and assess emergency calls from the public
- Dispatch appropriate emergency response units including police, fire, and medical services
- Provide critical information and instructions to callers to ensure safety and efficient response
- Coordinate with various emergency services to ensure effective communication and response to incidents
- Maintain accurate records of all calls and dispatch activities
- Monitor and track the status of emergency response units in the field
- Adhere to protocols and procedures to ensure timely and appropriate responses to emergencies
- Work collaboratively with team members to ensure seamless coordination and communication during high-stress situations
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Successful completion of a recognized emergency telecommunications or dispatch program
- Proficient in using computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems and other relevant technology
- Excellent verbal communication skills and ability to remain calm under pressure
- Strong multitasking and decision-making abilities
- Knowledge of emergency response protocols and procedures
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment
- Willingness to work rotational shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
Desired Skills:
- Previous experience as an emergency dispatcher or in a related role
- Certification in CPR and First Aid
- Additional training in crisis intervention or conflict resolution
- Bilingual proficiency in English and another language
Compensation & Benefits:
The City of Vancouver offers a competitive annual salary for Emergency Dispatchers in the range of $50,000 to $65,000 CAD, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
