Key Responsibilities For Guidance Counselor:
- Provide academic, career, and personal counseling to students to support their overall well-being and success.
- Conduct individual and group counseling sessions to address students' academic challenges, career goals, and personal issues.
- Develop and implement programs to promote mental health awareness and wellness within the student community.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to identify and address students' academic and emotional needs.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student records in compliance with university policies and regulations.
Required Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
- Certification as a professional counselor (e.g., Registered Clinical Counselor) in British Columbia.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in counseling or a related field within an educational setting.
- Strong knowledge of mental health issues affecting students and familiarity with counseling techniques and interventions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
Desired Skills:
- Experience working with diverse student populations and an understanding of cultural competency in counseling.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and ethical guidelines governing counseling practices in British Columbia.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and contribute to a positive and supportive work culture.
- Proficiency in using counseling software or tools for case management and student tracking.
Compensation & Benefits:
The University of Alberta offers a competitive annual salary range for the Guidance Counselor position, ranging from $60,000 to $80,000 CAD, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
