Key Responsibilities For Librarian:
- Organize and manage the university library's collection of resources, including books, journals, and digital materials.
- Assist students, faculty, and staff with research inquiries and information retrieval.
- Develop and implement library programs and services to support the academic needs of the university community.
- Catalog and classify new library materials using standard classification systems.
- Collaborate with faculty to support curriculum development and promote information literacy.
- Stay current with trends in library science and technology to enhance library services and resources.
Required Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program.
- Knowledge of library systems, cataloging standards, and information retrieval tools.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with diverse library users.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced academic environment.
- Experience in providing research assistance and reference services in a library setting.
Desired Skills:
- Experience with library management systems such as Alma or Koha.
- Familiarity with scholarly communication trends and open access initiatives.
- Knowledge of emerging technologies and their applications in library services.
- Experience in developing and delivering information literacy instruction.
- Strong project management skills to coordinate library initiatives and programs.
Compensation & Benefits:
The University of Alberta offers a competitive salary range for Librarians, typically ranging from $60,000 to $80,000 CAD per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
