Key Responsibilities For Mental Health Counselor:
- Conduct individual and group counseling sessions to assess and address patients' mental health needs
- Develop personalized treatment plans in collaboration with patients to promote mental well-being and recovery
- Provide crisis intervention and support to individuals experiencing acute mental health challenges
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated and holistic care for patients
- Maintain accurate and confidential patient records in compliance with regulatory standards
- Stay current on best practices in mental health counseling and participate in professional development activities
Required Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or related field
- Registration with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) or relevant regulatory body
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in providing mental health counseling services
- Strong understanding of mental health disorders, treatment modalities, and therapeutic interventions
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and crisis management skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment with diverse patient populations
Desired Skills:
- Certification in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) or other evidence-based therapeutic approaches
- Experience working with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and marginalized communities
- Proficiency in utilizing electronic medical records and telehealth platforms
- Knowledge of community resources and referral networks for ongoing patient support
- Bilingual proficiency in languages commonly spoken in the Brampton area is an asset
Compensation & Benefits:
The annual salary range for the Mental Health Counselor position at Vancouver Coastal Health in Brampton, Ontario, is between $60,000 to $80,000 CAD, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
