Key Responsibilities for Special Education Teacher:
- Develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students with special needs
- Provide tailored instruction and support to students with diverse learning abilities
- Collaborate with parents, school staff, and external professionals to address students' unique needs
- Assess students' progress and adjust teaching strategies accordingly
- Create a safe and inclusive classroom environment conducive to learning for all students
- Stay current on best practices in special education and participate in professional development activities
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field
- Valid teaching certification from the Ontario College of Teachers
- Experience working with students with diverse learning needs
- Knowledge of special education laws and regulations in Ontario
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
Desired Skills:
- Additional qualifications in Special Education or related field
- Experience using assistive technology to support student learning
- Fluency in multiple languages to support diverse student populations
- Training in behavior management strategies
- Experience working in a multicultural and urban school setting
Compensation & Benefits:
The annual salary range for a Special Education Teacher at Toronto District School Board is between $55,000 to $85,000 CAD, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
