Key Responsibilities for Special Educational Needs Coordinator:
- Develop and implement strategies to support students with special educational needs (SEN) in line with the school's policies and guidelines.
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and external agencies to create individual education plans (IEPs) for students with SEN.
- Provide training and support to teaching staff on best practices for inclusive education and differentiation in the classroom.
- Monitor and assess the progress of students with SEN, adjusting support strategies as needed to ensure their academic and social development.
- Act as a point of contact for external agencies, professionals, and parents regarding SEN provision within the school.
- Keep accurate records of SEN students' progress, interventions, and support strategies in compliance with regulatory requirements.
Required Qualifications:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in the UK.
- Postgraduate qualification in Special Educational Needs Coordination (SENCo) or equivalent.
- In-depth knowledge of the Special Educational Needs Code of Practice and relevant legislation in the UK.
- Experience in working with students with a range of SEN, including autism, dyslexia, ADHD, and speech and language difficulties.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to liaise effectively with students, parents, and external stakeholders.
Desired Skills:
- Experience in leading or coordinating SEN provision within a school setting.
- Additional training in specific areas of SEN, such as behaviour management or sensory processing disorders.
- Familiarity with assistive technologies and resources to support students with SEN.
- Ability to deliver training sessions and workshops on inclusive education practices to staff members.
Compensation & Benefits:
The annual salary range for the Special Educational Needs Coordinator position at State Schools in Aberdeen, Scotland, is £30,000 to £40,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
