Key Responsibilities For Forklift Operator - Operate sit‑down, stand‑up and pallet‑jack forklifts safely and efficiently within the Burnaby yard, adhering to CPKC’s safety policies, CSA standards and provincial regulations. - Load, unload, stack and relocate freight containers, pallets and bulk items on railcars, trucks and warehouse racks, ensuring accurate placement and weight distribution. - Conduct pre‑operational inspections of equipment, report any defects, and perform basic maintenance such as battery charging and fluid checks. - Maintain accurate documentation of movements using handheld scanners and CPKC’s logistics software, confirming receipt and dispatch of shipments. - Coordinate with yard supervisors, dispatchers and other material‑handling teams to prioritize work orders and meet service level agreements. - Participate in daily safety briefings, hazard assessments and emergency response drills; promptly report unsafe conditions or incidents. - Keep work areas clean, organized and free of debris to support a safe and efficient operating environment. - Assist with inventory counts, cycle counts and spot checks as directed by inventory control personnel. Required Qualifications - Valid forklift operator certification (CSA‑approved) and a clean BC driver’s licence (Class 5 or higher). - Minimum of two (2) years of experience operating forklifts in a rail‑yard, warehouse or similar logistics setting. - Demonstrated knowledge of load‑handling principles, weight limits and proper stacking techniques. - Ability to read and interpret shipping documents, yard maps and safety signage. - Strong physical stamina; able to lift up to 50 kg and stand for extended periods in varying weather conditions. - Excellent communication skills in English; bilingual French is an asset. - Commitment to adhere to CPKC’s safety protocols, attendance standards and drug‑free workplace policies. Desired Skills - Experience with intermodal equipment such as container spreaders, reach trucks or order‑pickers. - Familiarity with warehouse management systems (WMS) and basic computer literacy. - Proven track record of zero‑incident safety performance. - Ability to work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends and overtime during peak periods. - Team‑oriented mindset with a proactive approach to problem solving and continuous improvement.
