As part of its strategic growth, Vancouver School Board seeks a qualified Librarian to lead the school library services and contribute to the district’s educational mission.
Key Responsibilities for Librarian  
- Plan, develop, and manage the school library’s collection of print, digital, and multimedia resources in alignment with the curriculum and provincial standards.  
- Provide reference, research, and information literacy instruction to students and staff, integrating technology and emerging media.  
- Collaborate with teachers to design and deliver curriculum‑linked programs, reading initiatives, and interdisciplinary projects.  
- Oversee circulation, cataloguing, and acquisition processes using industry‑standard library management systems (e.g., Follett Destiny, SirsiDynix).  
- Supervise library assistants, volunteers, and student aides, including scheduling, training, and performance feedback.  
- Ensure a safe, welcoming, and accessible environment that complies with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and Nova Scotia’s Human Rights Act.  
- Manage the library budget, prepare annual reports, and recommend resource allocations to senior administration.  
- Promote literacy and community engagement through events such as author visits, book clubs, and parent workshops.  
- Stay current with educational trends, copyright law, and digital licensing to advise the school on best practices.  
Required Qualifications  
- Bachelor’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA‑accredited program or equivalent.  
- Valid Nova Scotia or British Columbia teaching/library certification, or eligibility for certification through the Nova Scotia College of Teachers.  
- Minimum three (3) years of experience working in a K‑12 school library environment.  
- Demonstrated knowledge of Canadian Library Association (CLA) standards and provincial curriculum frameworks.  
- Proficiency with integrated library systems, digital resource platforms, and basic troubleshooting of hardware and software.  
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly to diverse audiences.  
- Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, and ability to support Indigenous perspectives and resources.  
Desired Skills  
- Experience designing and delivering information‑literacy programs that incorporate critical thinking and digital citizenship.  
- Familiarity with emerging technologies such as makerspaces, virtual reality, and coding resources for youth.  
- Ability to develop partnerships with community organizations, publishers, and local authors.  
- Knowledge of data‑driven decision making and ability to analyze usage statistics to inform collection development.  
- Fluency in a second language (e.g., French) is an asset.  
Compensation & Benefits  
- Annual salary range: $58,000 – $71,000 CAD, commensurate with experience, qualifications, and relevant certifications.
