Key Responsibilities For Pharmacy Technician - Accurately dispense prescription medications, over‑the‑counter products, and health‑care supplies in accordance with provincial regulations and Indigo’s standard operating procedures. - Verify prescription details, dosage calculations, and patient information using the pharmacy management system, and resolve any discrepancies in collaboration with the pharmacist. - Provide courteous, knowledgeable customer service, answering medication‑related questions, offering advice on proper use, and directing patients to appropriate health resources. - Manage inventory control, including receiving shipments, conducting regular stock counts, rotating stock, and ensuring expired or recalled products are removed promptly. - Process insurance claims, handle billing inquiries, and maintain confidential patient records in compliance with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). - Support the pharmacist in preparing compounded medications, labeling, and preparing medication counseling materials. - Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, adhering to health and safety protocols, infection‑control standards, and workplace hazard assessments. - Participate in continuous learning initiatives, staying current with changes in drug formularies, pharmacy law, and best practices in customer care. Required Qualifications - Completion of a recognized Pharmacy Technician program (e.g., Ontario College of Pharmacists, Nova Scotia College of Pharmacists) and current registration as a Pharmacy Technician in Nova Scotia. - Minimum of one (1) year of experience working in a retail or community pharmacy setting. - Valid Nova Scotia work permit or Canadian citizenship. - Strong knowledge of prescription processing, drug classifications, dosage calculations, and pharmacy law. - Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to explain medication information clearly to diverse customers. - Proficiency with pharmacy software systems (e.g., Kroll, QS/1, or similar) and basic computer applications (Microsoft Office). - Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays, as required by store scheduling. Desired Skills - Experience with point‑of‑sale (POS) systems and retail cash handling. - Bilingual ability (English/French) to serve a broader customer base. - Certification in Immunization Administration or willingness to obtain it. - Strong organizational and multitasking abilities in a fast‑paced environment. - Demonstrated commitment to customer service excellence and teamwork.
