Key Responsibilities For Civil Engineer - Lead the planning, design, and execution of civil engineering projects, including site grading, utility installation, roadways, and drainage systems. - Prepare and review engineering drawings, specifications, and calculations using AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, and other industry‑standard software. - Conduct field investigations, surveys, and geotechnical assessments to verify design assumptions and ensure constructability. - Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, contractors, and municipal authorities to obtain permits, approvals, and compliance with the Ontario Building Code and local bylaws. - Develop cost estimates, material take‑offs, and construction schedules, and monitor project budgets to identify and mitigate cost overruns. - Perform technical reviews of subcontractor submittals, shop drawings, and change orders, providing clear feedback and ensuring alignment with project requirements. - Oversee construction activities on‑site, conduct regular inspections, and resolve technical issues promptly to maintain quality and safety standards. - Prepare progress reports, technical documentation, and as‑built records for client and internal use. - Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including value engineering, risk management, and sustainability practices. Required Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited Canadian university. - Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario, or eligibility to obtain it within 12 months of hire. - Minimum of 3–5 years of relevant experience in civil infrastructure design and construction, preferably within the Ontario market. - Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, and Microsoft Project; familiarity with GIS and BIM tools is an asset. - Strong knowledge of the Ontario Building Code, Highway Traffic Act, and municipal engineering standards. - Valid Ontario driver’s licence with a clean driving record. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear technical reports and interact effectively with clients, regulators, and multidisciplinary teams. - Demonstrated commitment to health and safety practices in accordance with OHSA and company safety policies. Desired Skills - Experience with stormwater management design, transportation engineering, or utility infrastructure projects. - Familiarity with sustainable design practices such as LEED, Green Infrastructure, and low‑impact development. - Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines. - Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities, with a focus on practical, cost‑effective solutions. - Leadership experience, including mentoring junior engineers or supervising field crews. - Proficiency in French is considered a plus for bilingual project opportunities.
