The Hamilton, Ontario office serves as a regional hub for financial operations, policy implementation, and taxpayer services in the Greater Golden Horseshoe area. Key Responsibilities for Finance Officer - Prepare, analyse, and reconcile monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with the Public Sector Accounting Board (PSAB) standards and CRA internal policies. - Process and verify journal entries, accruals, and adjustments, ensuring accuracy and compliance with the Financial Administration Act. - Conduct variance analysis and provide explanatory commentary to senior management and auditors. - Support the development of budget forecasts, monitoring of expenditures, and identification of cost‑saving opportunities across the Hamilton region. - Liaise with internal audit, external auditors, and other government departments to facilitate timely and effective audit outcomes. - Maintain and update financial systems, including the Integrated Financial Management System (IFMS), ensuring data integrity and security. - Provide guidance and training to junior staff on financial procedures, controls, and best practices. - Contribute to policy development and procedural improvements that enhance financial stewardship and transparency. - Respond to inquiries from taxpayers, stakeholders, and senior officials regarding financial matters, maintaining a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. Required Qualifications - University degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or a related discipline; a professional designation such as CPA, CGA, CMA or CA is strongly preferred. - Minimum of three (3) years of progressive experience in public‑sector finance, accounting, or audit functions. - Demonstrated knowledge of Canadian public‑sector accounting standards (PSAB) and Treasury Board policies. - Proven ability to work with complex financial data, perform detailed analysis, and produce clear written reports. - Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel (pivot tables, advanced formulas) and experience using financial management software. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to non‑technical audiences. - Eligibility to work in Canada and willingness to obtain a security clearance as required by CRA. Desired Skills - Experience with the Integrated Financial Management System (IFMS) or similar ERP platforms. - Familiarity with tax administration processes and the Canada Revenue Agency’s operational environment. - Project management experience, including the ability to lead cross‑functional initiatives. - Advanced analytical tools proficiency (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) for data visualisation. - Bilingual ability (English/French) is an asset. - Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and innovation in financial processes.
