Key Responsibilities For Loss Prevention Officer  
- Conduct regular patrols of the sales floor, stockroom, and exterior areas to deter theft, vandalism, and other security risks.  
- Monitor surveillance systems, review video footage, and document incidents in accordance with Home Depot Canada policies and Alberta privacy legislation.  
- Perform proactive investigations of suspected internal and external theft, including interviewing witnesses, gathering evidence, and preparing detailed incident reports for management and law enforcement.  
- Collaborate with store leadership, merchandising, and human resources to develop and implement loss‑prevention strategies, such as merchandise placement, signage, and employee training.  
- Execute controlled entry and exit procedures for high‑value items, including verification of receipts and authorization of special orders.  
- Respond promptly to alarms, emergencies, and customer safety concerns, providing clear communication and coordination with local police or emergency services when required.  
- Maintain accurate inventory audits, conduct random spot checks, and reconcile discrepancies to support accurate financial reporting.  
- Uphold all relevant provincial and federal regulations, including the Alberta Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and privacy statutes.  
Required Qualifications  
- Minimum high school diploma or equivalent; post‑secondary education in criminal justice, security management, or a related field is an asset.  
- At least two (2) years of experience in loss prevention, security, or a comparable role within a retail environment.  
- Valid Alberta Security Guard license (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire) and a clean criminal record check.  
- Strong knowledge of Canadian privacy laws, the Criminal Code, and applicable provincial regulations.  
- Excellent observational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.  
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, concise incident reports.  
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required by store operations.  
Desired Skills  
- Certification in conflict resolution, de‑escalation techniques, or first‑aid/CPR.  
- Experience using advanced video‑analytics software and electronic article surveillance (EAS) systems.  
- Proven ability to train and mentor store staff on loss‑prevention best practices.  
- Strong analytical mindset with proficiency in data‑driven reporting tools.  
- Bilingual proficiency in English and French is considered a plus.  
Compensation & Benefits  
- Competitive annual salary range: $45,000 – $60,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
