Key Responsibilities for Customs Broker  
- Prepare, review and submit accurate customs documentation for import and export shipments, ensuring compliance with Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) regulations, trade agreements and FedEx internal policies.  
- Classify goods using the Harmonized System (HS) and determine appropriate duty and tax rates, applying tariff‑rate quotas, preferential treatments and exemptions where applicable.  
- Liaise with customs officials, freight forwarders, carriers and internal stakeholders to resolve clearance issues, obtain permits, licences or certificates of origin in a timely manner.  
- Conduct pre‑clearance risk assessments, identify potential compliance gaps and implement corrective actions to minimise delays and penalties.  
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of changes to customs legislation, trade agreements (e.g., USMCA, CETA) and FedEx operational procedures; disseminate relevant updates to the team.  
- Provide guidance and training to sales, operations and customer service staff on customs requirements and best practices.  
- Manage electronic filing systems (e.g., ACE, ASYCUDA) and ensure all records are retained in accordance with Canadian privacy and record‑keeping standards.  
- Contribute to continuous‑improvement initiatives, including process automation, KPI tracking and customer service enhancements.
Required Qualifications  
- Minimum of 3 years of hands‑on experience as a licensed Customs Broker in Canada, with a valid Customs Broker licence issued by the CBSA.  
- Post‑secondary education in International Trade, Logistics, Business Administration or a related field; a diploma or degree is preferred.  
- Demonstrated proficiency with customs clearance software (e.g., FedEx Global Trade Management, Descartes, Amber Road) and Microsoft Office Suite.  
- Strong understanding of Canadian import/export regulations, tariff classification, valuation, origin rules and restricted goods.  
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and French, with the ability to interact professionally with government agencies and internal partners.  
- Proven ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines and manage multiple shipments simultaneously.  
- Eligibility to work in Canada and willingness to obtain any additional security clearances required for the role.
Desired Skills  
- Experience with automated customs filing (ACE) and electronic data interchange (EDI) platforms.  
- Knowledge of additional trade agreements such as NAFTA/USMCA, CETA, and familiarity with duty drawback processes.  
- Certification in International Trade Compliance (e.g., CTP, CTC) or membership in professional bodies such as the Canadian Society of Customs Brokers.  
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities, with a focus on risk mitigation.  
- Customer‑service orientation and the ability to explain complex customs requirements in plain language.  
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural team environment.
