Key Responsibilities For Software Engineer - Design, develop, test and maintain scalable backend services and APIs that power Hootsuite’s core platform, adhering to clean‑code principles and industry best practices. - Collaborate with product managers, UX designers and fellow engineers to translate business requirements into technical specifications and deliver incremental value in two‑week sprint cycles. - Participate in code reviews, provide constructive feedback and mentor junior team members to uphold a high standard of code quality and knowledge sharing. - Optimise system performance, reliability and security by implementing monitoring, logging and automated testing frameworks. - Contribute to architectural discussions, evaluate emerging technologies and propose improvements that align with Hootsuite’s long‑term roadmap. - Work closely with DevOps to ensure smooth CI/CD pipelines, cloud infrastructure management (primarily AWS) and effective incident response. Required Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience. - Minimum of 3 years of professional experience developing production‑grade software in Java, C# or Node.js (or comparable language). - Proven expertise with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and familiarity with NoSQL solutions such as MongoDB or DynamoDB. - Strong understanding of RESTful API design, micro‑services architecture and containerisation technologies (Docker, Kubernetes). - Experience with version control systems, preferably Git, and modern agile development methodologies (Scrum or Kanban). - Ability to communicate clearly in English, both verbally and in writing, and to work effectively within a distributed, cross‑functional team.
