Key Responsibilities For Department Manager - Lead all operational aspects of the assigned department (e.g., Grocery, Apparel, Electronics, Home) to achieve sales, profit, and customer‑service targets. - Supervise, coach, and develop a team of associates and assistant managers, conducting regular performance reviews and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. - Manage inventory levels, merchandising standards, and plan‑ogram compliance to maximize sell‑through while minimizing shrinkage. - Analyze daily, weekly, and monthly sales reports; develop action plans to address gaps and capitalize on opportunities. - Ensure compliance with all Walmart Canada policies, provincial health and safety regulations, and the Canada Labour Code, including proper scheduling, overtime, and record‑keeping. - Partner with the Store Manager and other department leaders to execute promotional events, seasonal resets, and community initiatives. - Resolve customer escalations promptly and professionally, maintaining the brand’s reputation for service excellence. - Oversee loss‑prevention activities, including audit procedures, cash handling, and security protocols. - Contribute to hiring, onboarding, and training processes to build a skilled, diverse workforce. Required Qualifications - Minimum of 5 years of progressive retail experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role. - Demonstrated ability to meet or exceed sales and profit objectives in a high‑volume environment. - Strong knowledge of Canadian retail regulations, occupational health and safety standards, and the Canada Labour Code. - Proven track record of leading, developing, and motivating teams of 15‑30 employees. - Excellent analytical skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint) and Walmart’s internal reporting tools. - High school diploma or equivalent; post‑secondary education in Business, Retail Management, or a related field is preferred. - Valid Ontario driver’s licence and reliable transportation for occasional off‑site duties. Desired Skills - Advanced understanding of merchandising, plan‑ogram execution, and inventory management best practices. - Experience with visual merchandising and creating compelling in‑store displays. - Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships across all levels of the organization. - Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and work effectively under pressure. - Fluency in English; French language ability is an asset given the bilingual nature of the Canadian market. - Familiarity with digital retail tools, e‑commerce integration, and data‑driven decision making.
